Minutes General Meeting June 9, 2016

Meeting opened with the reading of the SCA Values, Mission & Vision by Dave Michal

  5. Treasurer’s Report (Bruce Matthews):
    1. Current balance: $2544.16; Stinzine’s balance: $1441.07
    2. As Bruce is vacating his position this summer, we need a replacement until the AGM
    3. Dave Michal volunteers to be Interim Treasurer, and is acclaimed
  6. Committee Updates
    1. Songs From The Bishop (Adam Bently)

    2. Mural / BBQ
      • Sunday, June 12, 11-2
      • Speeches from Cllr Farr, Ken Coit, and Bryce Huffman (the artist)
      • Food, kids activities, Y On Wheels, local artists, basketball, and more!
    3. Dog Park (Erika)
      1. We’re working with Rebecca Costi of Corktown NA for the new name
      2. A survey is being emailed around (https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/SGZH6KL)
      3. It is now open, but we hope to have a naming ceremony once the name is agreed upon
    4. Plan Local Ward 2 (Matt Grande)
      1. Voting opens June 20, and lasts until July 1
      2. Voting can be done online: http://planlocal.ca/ward2/vote
    5. LRT Update
      1. Encouragement from the members to make a committment to shop locally during construction
      2. A letter of support to Downtown / International Village businesses will be drafted, and sent to them

    2. Looking for a venue for a picnic; Found Carther Park & loved it!
    3. Wants to do a “less organized, flash mob picnic”
    4. Tentative date is July 31; More information to follow
  8. Arts Money Update (Dave Michal)
    1. We had previously received a $1000 grant from Benjamin Moore to do the mural; This was later paid for in full by the city, and the money remains in our account
    2. At a previous meeting, we agreed to earmark that money for the arts, in general, rather than a specific mural
    3. Dave suggests getting input from the community at large during the BBQ on Sunday
    4. Examples of usage included Bishop’s Park Fence, re-doing the Carter Park shed, a Sobi Station “sidewalk mural”
  9. Dispensary (Bruce Matthews)
    1. Bruce wanted the community to be aware that a marijuana dispensary has opened at the corner of Main & Emeral (Natural Green Compassion)
  10. Closing Remarks
    1. The July meeting will be cancelled, in favour of Songs From The Bishop
    2. The August meeting will be a BBQ
    3. The September meeting will be held at Employment Hamilton (67 Victoria Ave S), as Central Memorial will be closed for renovations
