Minutes General Meeting

Meeting opened with the reading of the SCA Values, Mission & Vision by Dave Michal

  1. Erika welcomed everyone and everyone introduced themselves.
  2. Reviewed the Agenda. Minutes were approved
  3. Treasurer’s Report (Bruce Matthews):
    1. Current balance (as of April 30): $2566.86; Stinzine’s balance: $1740.20
    2. Bruce noted that there was $1000 earmarked for the mural, but that the mural ended up being paid for by a City grant.
    3. Bruce recommends that the money be reclassified from “mural funding” to “arts funding”
    4. Dawn McIlmoyle recommends we discuss ideas at the June meeting
  4. Guest Speaker: Susan Noakes (McQuesten Urban Farm)
    1. An initiative to increase food security in the McQuesten area, as well as Hamilton at large
    2. Hiring people on OW, disability, etc for jobs
    3. They are putting in a nature walk; Planting hundreds of trees; Looking to open a market stand on Saturdays (as last year) as well as one on Friday with food trucks (new for 2016).
    4. They want to do a market/event in Stinson; Discussions ongoing

  5. Guest Speaker: Dave Stevens
    1. Asking for a letter of support against the West Harbour plans
    2. Dawn will draft letter/petition for next meeting
  6. Committee Updates
    1. Mural Update
      1. Event will take place Sunday, June 12
      2. Bryce Huffman (the artist) as well as Cllr Farr and others will be in attendance
      3. There will be a basketball tournament, kids events, and a bbq!
      4. Volunteers are needed, and urged to email info@stinsoncommunity.ca
    2. Plan Local Ward 2 (Lyna)
      1. Three phase process
        1. Identify changes (eg crosswalk at such-and-such intersection)
        2. Online voting
        3. Inverventions will be announced on July 16
    3. Dog Park Update
      1. Brush clearing completed! Gained us about 30 ft
      2. June 2nd is the tentative opening date (depending on the fence installation, so may be later) (Note, now open as of June 6)
      3. Granite choker sand instead of grass
      4. There’s money put aside for water fountains, but probably won’t be there for opening
    4. 100 in 1 Day
      1. June 4, 1-5pm in Carter Park
      2. Superhero theme
      3. Food For Kids program will be out so parents can sign up
    5. Songs From The Bishop
      1. Four shows this year
      2. Costing about $500 between publishing, paying for the acts, etc
      3. Lee is looking into grants
      4. Possibility of building a small, covered stage in Bishop Park, about 10×10 feet, giver or take
      5. Dawn makes the motion $500.00, Matt Grande second; Passes without objection
  1. Small Grant Application
    1. For mural unveiling event
    2. $1200 (of total $5000 for 2016)
    3. Assessment score: 71/80
    4. Lee motions; Dawn seconds; passes without objection
