Minutes General Meeting

Meeting opened with the reading of the SCA Values, Mission & Vision

 

  1. Erika welcomed everyone and everyone introduced themselves.
  2. Reviewed the Agenda. A minor update was made; Minutes were approved as ammended, moved by Erika, seconded by Bruce.
  3. Treasurer’s Report:
    1. Current balance: $2474.42
    2. Thanks to Tarek & SalesForce for their generous donation of $1000!
  4. Meeting surveys were handed out to all in attendance; Results will be discussed at the next meeting
  5. Guest Speaker: Hamilton Tenants Solidarity Network
    1. They are a tenent-led organization for tenents
    2. Fight against gentrification, predatory landlording, etc
    3. April 2: Coming out confrence, Perkins Centre (249 Caroline St S)
      1. Workshops: 10am-5pm
      2. General Assembly: 7pm-9pm (structure, organisation, voting, etc)
  1. Committee Updates
    1. Stinson 101 (Linda)
      1. It was a great evening; informative
      2. Three people who didn’t present came out due to poor weather 🙁
  • Positive experience nonetheless, and will hopefully do it again!
  1. PBW2 Update
    1. Meeting at City Hall to discuss Cllr Farr’s new PBW2 plan
    2. The general idea for this year is that More participation = More money
  • There will be a smaller pot of money this year
  1. Need to organize soon if we want Stinson projects on the ballot
  2. There is a theme this year: Safe streets
  3. There will also be a new name, TBD
  • Tim volunteers to be the Stinson rep on the PBW2 board
  1. St Leonard’s
    1. Update was provided via email re: their renovations at 24 Emerald St South
    2. Building permet for renovations at Cathedral Boy’s School has been granted; Expected to take 12 weeks
  • Once the move is completed (sometime in May), renovations will begin on Emerald St, and that is expected to take approximately 12 months.
  1. The Community Safety Forum (Steve?)
    1. All NAs, one forum to talk about safety issues in the various areas
    2. “Safety in Stinson means ____, safety in Keith means ____,” etc.
  • Forum to share ideas, issues, etc.
  1. Tim volunteers to be Stinson’s representative
  2. Next Meeting: April 21, 7pm, at the SPRC
  1. Building Momentum 2016 (Bruce)
    1. Bruce attended the meeting
    2. Last year, did two events: Volunteer appreciation Night and a Meeting at Tim Horton’s Field / fund raising gala
  • This year there will be only one event. Focus will be on the hubs; On the agenda there will be time to show off about their achievements
  1. They’re looking for someone from SCA to talk about what we’ve done over the past year (park reopening, events, Stinson 101, etc).
  2. Potential location: McQueston Community Gardens (TBC)
  3. Focus will *not* be on fundraising this year
  • Target date for the event this year is September
