Minutes General Meeting Thursday, November 12, 2015

Meeting opened with the reading of the SCA Values, Mission & Vision by Dave

 

1. Erika welcomed everyone and everyone introduced themselves.
2. Reviewed the Agenda. Nothing added to agenda; Minutes were approved, moved by Bruce, seconded by Dave.
3. Guest: Michael Sanderson, Chief Paramedic, City of Hamilton;
   1. Doing outreach; asked people of their opinions
   2. Talked about improvements in services & reduction in Code Zero events
4. Guest: Angela di Nello, Hamilton Neighbourhood Study
   1. Discussed the results of the Hamilton Neighbourhood Action Strategy
   2. Three hundred Stinson residents were surveyed in 2011, and again two years later

5. Guest: Pat Wright, NLI Recruitment
   1. Grants for activities/projects in the neighbourhood
   2. Training, through Mohawk College (includes a college credit)
   3. About $500 stipend to do the project
   4. Funded through HCF
   5. Deadline to apply? January of February? On the application
6. St Leonard’s Elevator Letter of Support
   1. In October, Tristan Sibley asked us to send a letter of support to help secure funding for an elevator in St Leonard’s (24 Emerald St S)
   2. There will be a community space in the renovated facility
   3. Vote: 14 in favour; As it was a clear majority, “No” votes were not tallied.
7. Executive Updates
   1. Treasurer’s Report
      1. Bruce Matthew’s, Treasurer, gave the report
      2. Current Balance: $2439.98

8. SCA Committee Updates
   1. StinFilms
      1. Joanna presented
      2. All StinFilms equipment to go into the custody of SCA (projector, screen, popcorn maker, etc)

• Gave a brief financial report; to be made public after it’s reviewed by the SPRC.

1. Carter Park Report
   1. Erika presented
   2. Great event, despite rain!

• Received a plaque from Cllr Farr & Mr Christopherson, MP, which will be displayed at the Rec Centre

1. The event was under budget! Yay!

1. Outreach Committee
   1. Linda Matthews presented the idea of using leftover funding to purchase a button maker
   2. The cost of the button maker is about $345, with a cost-per-button of about 14¢

• Vote: 15 in favour; As it was a clear majority, “No” votes were not tallied.

1. Particapatory Budgeting
   1. Presented by Lee
   2. New website being assembled

• We need to address the councillor to secure funding for 2016

1. General assembly in early 2016
2. Ralph moves to endorse, Tim Button seconds

1. Stinzine
   1. Presented by Lee
   2. December issue, waiting for content

• Planned as a sixteen-pager

1. Might need to take it back down to an eight-pager
2. Need someone to be our sales rep
3. Looking into which of our printers can do the cheapest

• Tim Button brings up the idea of reaching out to a Mohawk/Mac students
• ReMax people offer to donate

1. BM brings up that we’re running VERY low on money

9. Annual events calendar
   1. Brainstorming exercise
   2. Came up with the following events we are interested in doing:
   3. StinZine (x6), SummerFest/WinterFest, Easter Egg Hunt, Block Party/BBQ, 4 seasonal events, skating rink, food @ events (trucks?), Songs of the Bishop, Art In The Park / Mural, Basketball, kitty kat event, Stinson biking/walking tour (scavenger hunt?), Christmas decorations/contest, garden tour/fundraising, Rail Trail, 100 in 1 Day, Park cleanup, Mothers/Fathers Day, Yard Sale (x2?), Stinson 101
11. (#7 in agenda) SCA Committee Reports:
    1. Team Up to Clean-up …. Mike Montreuil leading
       1. OCTOBER 18^th 1:00pm to 5:00pm
       2. Volunteers needed
    2. Carter Park Celebration
       1. Oct. 24^th 1:00pm to 4:00pm
       2. Celebration to include Speeches, ribbon cutting, activities for children & adults, apples, drinks and a special cake to share

• Volunteers needed for set-up in advance, tear-down after and tables / events during the celebration

1. Outreach team will be there to hand-out bootee bags (donations from area businesses and City) PLUS information about SCA and how to get involved.

12. Discussion & Prioritizing our Plan
    1. Bruce introduced the idea; we will discuss in December.
